GST invoice calculator (CGST, SGST, IGST)

Split an amount into taxable value, CGST and SGST or IGST, inclusive or exclusive.

Rates and place of supply depend on what you sell. Verify them with a chartered accountant before issuing invoices.

Taxable value

₹1,000.00

CGST

₹90.00

SGST

₹90.00

Total GST

₹180.00

Invoice total

₹1,180.00

What it calculates

GST on an invoice is either added on top of a taxable value (exclusive) or already inside the price (inclusive). For a sale within one state the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST. For a sale between states it is charged as IGST.

The formula

  • Exclusive: tax = taxable value x rate, total = taxable value + tax
  • Inclusive: taxable value = total / (1 + rate), tax = total - taxable value
  • Same state: CGST = SGST = tax / 2
  • Different states: IGST = tax
  • All amounts are rounded to the paisa

Worked example

Rs 1,000 plus 18 percent GST, same state

  1. Tax = 1,000 x 0.18 = Rs 180
  2. CGST = Rs 90 and SGST = Rs 90
  3. Invoice total = Rs 1,180
  4. Reverse: an inclusive price of Rs 1,180 gives a taxable value of 1,180 / 1.18 = Rs 1,000
